Prescott Lakes Pickleball Club
Minutes of February 3, 2015, Meeting
The Meeting was called to order by President Jay Davis at 11:00 a.m. with 17 members present.
Year in Review – President Jay Davis reported on the accomplishments of the previous year.
Lessons – At-Large Member Dan Bergan explained weekly lessons are scheduled April through September, supported by a group of dedicated volunteer instructors. During the “off-season” lessons are given upon request. The Pickleball Club is recruiting more volunteer instructors. Contact Dan Bergan if you are interested.
Financials – Treasurer Doris Robak reported the 2014 recap has been e-mailed to all Pickleball Club members. The Club ended 2014 with $1473.28 in the checking account after the 2015 membership campaign at the end of 2014. For the first time, we know what amount of money we will have for the year. A detailed Balance Sheet and Income Statement are available to any Pickleball Club member upon request.
Membership – Secretary Genanne Davis thanked the membership for continuing to be so welcoming to new members. The Pickleball Club has developed a reputation for friendliness which we hope to perpetuate. Currently the membership stands at 88, of which over 60% have signed the Code of Conduct. At each seat was a slip of paper with the web site address: https://sites.google.com/a/cableone.net/plpickleball/. The web site posts activities, events, play schedules, general meeting minutes. Photos of Pickleball Club events for posting are appreciated. She made a request for a volunteer web site assistant so that more than one person can have access to the site. Lynn Chamberlin graciously volunteered.
Open Forum – The floor was open to discussion.
Peg Travers asked about Pickleball ournaments.com being used at the Senior Olympics. Jay Davis responded the City of Prescott has been contacted and is not interested.
Jim Robak encouraged Pickleball Club members to be trained as referees. Volunteer referees can be used at our events as well as other tournaments where volunteer referees are always in need.
Jay Davis reported that in several recent tournaments the Bronze Medal match has been one game to 15 points due to time constraints. We may use that precedent in future events here.
Peg Travers commented on food available at other tournaments. She would like to see similar accommodations for major events at our courts.
Jay Davis emphasized the visitor policy of The Club at Prescott Lakes. One person may have a maximum of 24 visits and must be accompanied at all times by their sponsor.
Lunch at the Grille: Members were encouraged to join the group for lunch at the Grille.

- The first Pickleball Club Championship was held in May and a multi-year plaque, which hangs prominently in the Athletic Center, was purchased.
- The City of Prescott Senior Olympics Pickleball Tournament was held for the second year in a row at our courts. The number of entrants doubled and we obtained some sponsors. The event had no major glitches.
- Among the many social and court events were Top Hat Event, Golden Paddle Event, Dink Fest, Lessons by Pat Carroll, a demonstration by ZZT Sports, a cadre of volunteers giving lessons to adults and juniors.
- Elections were held for our first Board of Directors, all of whom are in their second year of service.
- A play schedule was established and posted.
- The newly-elected Board of Directors wrote the Club By-laws and the Code of Conduct.
- To prevent injury, the Pickleball Club arranged for a covering over the fence which separates Courts 1 and 2, as well as tie-downs at the bottom of the chain link around all five courts.
- The Pickleball Club lobbied for removal of bushes at Courts 4 and 5 and the placement of rock in the areas of the courts
- The Pickleball Club purchased ball holders that were placed between Courts 1 and 2, between Courts 3 and 4, and between Courts 4 and 5.
- The Pickleball Club purchased a banner that is displayed at all Pickleball Club events.
- The Pickleball Club purchased used nets for use in the Prescott Senior Olympics in 2015.
- Try to cover costs of events and have better prizes for events.
- Activate the various committees.
- Obtain more accessories, such as shirts, badges, visors.
- Hold Board of Director elections in September.
- Perhaps run a major tournament of our own.
