Prescott Lakes Pickleball Club
Minutes of October 4, 2014, Meeting
The Meeting was called to order by President Jay Davis at 11:00 a.m. with 23 members present.
Election of At Large Member: An election by secret ballot was held for the position vacated by Duke Vaughn. Dale Jung was elected. She will finish the current term and begin her 2-year term in January, 2015. Randy Price was given a big thank you for his interim service on the Board.
President’s Report: Jay Davis reported the club membership is now at 101 members.
He thanked Ellie Trantham for donating $100 to the Club from sale of pickleball paddle covers. He also thanked Ellie Trantham for repairing the pickleball nets. Reviewing the past year, Jay noted that the Board of Directors has made several revisions to the play schedule, written the By-laws for the club, held a Pickleball Club Championship and hosted the City of Prescott Senior Olympics. In addition, the Club has held several fun socials for club members, including, Top Hat Valentine’s Edition, Tres de Mayo, Golden Paddle, Dinkfest, and the upcoming Top Hat Halloween Edition. Recently the Club purchased a sign holder that will be at the Check-In desk on days when lessons are held or to advertise other Pickleball Club events.
Jay stated the Pat Carroll Workshops will be held October 21 – 27. Registration forms have been e-mailed to all members. Addition registration forms are available at the courts. Registration deadline is October 15.
Plans for the future include purchasing a Club banner and buying net sets for tournaments.
Vice President’s Report: Jean Bowman reported that the revised schedule seems to be working. She urged members to continue to follow the play schedule. She invited comments and suggestions from any Club members.
At Large Member: Randy Price reported that the Challenge Courts have been a huge success. There has been a change—moving the Challenge Court from Court 5 to Court 3 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday beginning, Monday, October 6, 2014. In addition Randy described Round Robin play. There was a large indication of interest.
Secretary’s Report: Genanne Davis commended Club members for being so welcoming of new members. She requested that any e-mail that is intended for all members of the Pickleball Club be sent through her. She encouraged Club members to visit the Prescott Lakes Pickleball website (https://sites.google.com/a/cableone.net/plpickleball ) often to keep up with upcoming events, see results of previous events, and for links to USAPA site for information and videos on playing tips.
At Large Member: Dan Bergan sent e-mails to instructors thanking them for their efforts. Volunteers have been holding free lessons each Tuesday morning since May and will continue through the end of October.
Treasurer’s Report: Doris Robak reported the Club began the year with $960. Expenses this year have included pickleballs, pickleball holders, nets, hooks for bags, and the Club Championship plaque. Net gain for events and tournaments for the year is $35, with a current balance of $1,200. Per the By-laws, membership renewal dues will begin in Mid-November and be delinquent January 1, 2015.
At Large Member: Joe Rubio, reporting for Jeanice Monastesse, encouraged Club members to support the Party on the Patio hosted by The Club at Prescott Lakes.
Member Services Committee: Jay Davis, reporting for Randy Hurwitz, announced a proposal to periodically award a Club member for extreme kindness/patience/selflessness. The proposed title is Good Pickler Award.
Open Forum: The floor was opened for discussion of topics of interest to attendees. Jim Robak announced August 14, 15, and 16 are the dates for the City of Prescott Senior Olympics for 2015, which will be held at Prescott Lakes. He encouraged members to join USAPA.
Roger Wolfe thanked the Board of Directors for their work this past year. He encouraged the Club to try to work with management to replace the DG on the north and east ends of Court 5. A petition was passed around for sign-up of volunteers to help with this endeavor.
Lunch at the Grille: Jay Davis encouraged members were encouraged to join the group for lunch at the Grille.
